 Currently there are 138 million domain name registrations as of August 2007 (top level domain names [TLDs]) according to VeriSign in their Domain Industry Brief. This number represents a 31% increase from last year at this time and an 8% increase from the first quarter of 2007. .com’s represented the largest group with .de (Germany’s default domain extension) holding the 2nd highest number of TLDs and .net right behind it. .uk and .cn (China) are the next in order of highest number of domain registrations.

The 2nd quarter of 2007 had a record breaking 14.5 million NEW domain registrations which broke the mark set in the 4th quarter of 2006.

.com and .net’s were renewed 76% percent in the 2nd quarter of 2007. Currently, there are 840 .com and .net domain name registrars around the world. ccTLD’s or Country Coded Top Level Domains had remarkable growth in the 2nd quarter with China (.cn), Russian Federation (.ru) and Korea (.kr) growing at double digit growth rates.

    The internet is ever growing and will continure to grow even more quickly the more it grows. It’s unstopable and soon those numbers will be almost uncountable.. LOL
