Overpaying for Sex.com? Any given Sunday…I mean “keyword”…

Well, I’ve been starting to use some different tools to gauge what truly is a highly sought after keyword. I trusted my handy wordtracker list that I get from the site & it really is a great list. I really appreciate what the guys over there have done & they do clearly identify the list is generated from meta search engine searches. However, I do need to know what’s the “true” search engine inventory on any given keyword…otherwise, I may be overvaluing an area I’d like to go into business with.

So, I took the top 10 keywords on the list for wordtracker. They are porn, myspace, pussy, sex, google, hentai, boobs, yahoo, ebay and myspace.com. Well, when I do searches on a tool that I’m using right now which honestly just pulls from the US inventory of Yahoo, I get this list instead:

1 myspace
2 google
3 myspace.com
4 ebay
5 sex
6 yahoo
7 porn
8 boobs
9 pussy
10 hentai

It’s a stark contrast to the list before that I published a week ago. I was pretty sure the wordtracker words were “on the spot.” I may be wrong as far as how the new tool truly adds up the inventory. It may be adding up all the permutations of each keyword in other phrases. So, that may be the problem with the calculation. I’m hoping to get clarification on that soon.

Nevertheless, “myspace” truly dominated with literally over 25 million searches last month on Yahoo’s search side for the US with their 2nd search phrase “myspace.com” (just adding the .com) supposedly generating about 18+ million searches. “sex” was actually searched only a bit over 6 million times and this may include all the different permutations of it as well — so the logic above may not be distorted & this new tool may actually be more accurate.

“Porn” was at 3.8+ million with most of the adult keywords at the bottom of this mini-evaluation of the top 10 words. “Hentai” only generated a bit short of 800k in searches which would put it miles below a word that wasn’t even on the list “domain” which supposedly generated 1.6+ million searches and again wasn’t even in the top 200 list. Actually, “domain” was above “pussy” which is #3 on Wordtracker’s list, but is only searched 500k less than actually “domain.” So, I’m confused right now & may do further evaluation if people want…
